DISCOVERY TO PRODUCE AMBITIOUS DOCUMENTARY ON THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT – WILD PLANET: NORTH AMERICA
-- International Pre-Sale Opportunities Available at MIPTV --
Silver Spring, Md., April 6, 2010 – Using the full power of cutting-edge film technology, Discovery Channel is teaming up with Wild Horizons, Ltd. and Keith Scholey, formerly head of the BBC’s Natural History Unit, in a multiyear production deal to capture the world, continent by continent, in high definition, as never before seen. International pre-sale opportunities are still available for Wild Planet: North America through Discovery’s international program sales arm, Discovery Enterprises International.
“Wild Planet: North America will highlight the sweeping beauty and majesty of the continent and its rich diversity and ignite our viewers’ passion for the world around them,” said Nicolas Bonard, Senior Vice President, Discovery Enterprises International.
This ambitious seven-part documentary will focus on one of the most captivating continents on the planet – North America. Stretching from Canada’s polar ice caps to Mexico’s subtropics, it contains diverse habitats and even more varied wildlife. Employing the most advanced technology available, Discovery and Wild Horizons will capture iconic images and landscapes that will enable viewers to experience these unforgettable locations for themselves. Wild Planet aims to surprise all those people who think they are familiar with North American wildlife.
High-definition cameras will be hoisted to the tops of mammoth sequoias, the largest living organisms on earth, and lowered down into Carlsbad Cavern, one of the deepest caves on the planet. In addition, the use of high-speed cameras specially designed to move or fly with animals will enable the producers to capture animals in the most dramatic fashion, from leaping humpback whales to flying squirrels soaring through the forests at night.
Wild Planet: North America is produced for Discovery Channel by Wild Horizons, Ltd. Keith Scholey is executive producer. For Discovery Channel, Paul Gasek is executive producer.
