REX RECKA APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM ENTERPRISES – ACQUISITIONS, DISCOVERY ENTERPRISES INTERNATIONAL
SILVER SPRING, Md., June 28, 2010 - Discovery Communications today announced the appointment of Rex Recka to the position of Vice President of International Program Enterprises - Acquisitions for Discovery Enterprises International. Recka, who will report to Nicolas Bonard, Senior Vice President of Discovery Enterprises International, will be based in the company's headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.
In this newly created position, Recka will work alongside Discovery's U.S. and international programming and development teams to evaluate and identify key specials and series for international syndication and co-financing opportunities to third-party broadcasters.
"A 20-year veteran of Discovery Communications, Rex's vast knowledge of the television industry coupled with his extensive international programming experience made him the ideal candidate to take on the new role," said Bonard.
Recka returns to Discovery after serving as Vice President of Business Affairs, Partnerships and Syndication at Cox Communications, Inc./Travel Channel Media. In this role, he managed all business negotiations for Travel Channel programming as well as partnerships, talent and international syndication deals.
Prior to this, Recka spent more than twenty years at Discovery Communications in a several leadership roles in programming, program sales and business affairs. He has an astute knowledge of the company's programming needs and relationships between the US and international network teams having worked with Discovery Channel, TLC and Discovery Networks International. Recka also has vast experience with Discovery's program sales and syndication rights negotiations as he spent four years leading Discovery's international program sales and joint-venture operations.
Recka earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in radio, film and television at the University of Maryland.
