Discovery Channel Sees Ratings Success in Romania

In the first four months of 2009, Discovery Channel in Romania has increased its shared a remarkable 65% among Men 25-39 when compared to the same time period a year ago. Additionally, Discovery Channel's market share in April among its core target audience increased by 88%.

In April, among the target male audience, the most popular series was MEAN MACHINES, generating a share of 9.62% on April 12). This showing comes on the heels of continuous ratings growth since last year when the Romanian program schedule was localized. Programs that have strongly contributed to the ratings success over time include MIAMI INK, HOW IT'S MADE and DISCOVERY TOUR.

MIAMI INK was picked up in Romania from Discovery Travel & Living half way through 2008, and it was the first Central European market to show the series on Discovery Channel. Between January and April 2009, as compared to the same time period last year, MIAMI INK generated a 59% increase in viewing share among Discovery Channel's core target, and an amazing 159% increase in April 2009 when compared to April 2008.

HOW IT'S MADE has also been performing strongly against popular evening news programs and generated a 38% increase in the first four months of 2009, compared with the same time period a year ago. DISCOVERY TOUR has also maintained viewer loyalty and interest over time, generating a 59% increase in share among Discovery Channel's core target audience in the first four months of 2009 and a 126% year-over-year increase in April.
