Discovery en EspaƱol Delivers Strong Second Quarter

At the close of the second quarter of 2009, Discovery en Español (DSCE) continued to outdeliver on its 2Q08 ratings performance. For the first time ever, Discovery en Español ranked as the #1 pay-TV network in primetime on Sundays among the key demographics of Adults 18-49 and Men 18-49.

The Sunday primetime winning streak is driven by the highly popular series A PRUEBA DE TODO (MAN VS. WILD), which regularly ranks #1 in its time period (8 PM hour) among Men. This is followed by a consistently strong showing by the network's weekly Sunday programming block, Discovery Presenta, airing at 9 PM and 10 PM. Titles that drove the Discovery Presenta block include:

  • MOISES (4/5/09 at 9 PM): #1 pay-TV network in its time period among Adults and Men 18-49; also outdelivered broadcaster Azteca among the same demos
  • JESUS...LA VERDADERA HISTORIA (4/12/09 at 10 PM): #1 pay-TV network in its time period among Adults and Men 18-49; also outdelivered broadcaster Azteca among the same demos
  • APARICIONES EN CONNECTICUT (5/3/09 at 9 PM): #1 pay-TV network among all 18-49 year old categories; also outdelivered broadcaster Azteca in the same demos
  • SUPERVOLCAN (5/17/09, 8-10:30 PM): #1 pay-TV network among all 18-49 year old categories and out ranked broadcaster Azteca in the same demos
  • ANGELES Y DEMONIOS (6/7/09 at 9 PM): #1 pay-TV network in its time period among Adults and Men 18-49
  • PLANETA VIVO/VERANO ARTICO (6/14/09 at 9 PM): #1 pay-TV network in its time period among Adults and Men 18-49; outranked broadcaster Azteca in the same demos
  • EL RESCATE PERFECTO (6/28/09 at 9 PM): #1 pay-TV network among all 18-49 year old categories

The growth trend exhibited during Sunday primetime is augmented by the network's strong performance from Monday to Sunday, 9 AM to 12 AM. Discovery en Español continued making headway among viewers posting more growth than any other Spanish-language pay-TV network from 2Q08 vs. 2Q09 within this time period.

"We are extremely pleased with Discovery en Español's consistent performance among key audiences," said Luis Silberwasser, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group. "The network's ongoing positive results are a clear indicator that we hit the mark when it comes to programming — with choices that nourish the aspirational qualities inherent in the U.S. Hispanic audience."
