DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS INKS TWO-YEAR, 180 HOUR OUTPUT DEAL WITH LES CHAINES TELE ASTRAL

CANNES, April 13, 2010 – Discovery Communications today announced a significant output deal with Les Chaînes Télé Astral, a division of Astral Media. Under the terms of the agreement, Astral has bought the rights to air 180 hours of programming from across Discovery’s portfolio of networks over the course of the next two years.



“Astral's specialty channels are a natural fit for Discovery's high-quality content that spans a variety of programming genres. This deal represents our continued commitment to strengthening ongoing relationships with Canadian broadcasters in order to extend Discovery’s extensive programming library and breadth of nonfiction entertainment to even wider international audiences,” said Elliot Wagner, Director, Discovery Enterprises International.

“We are very pleased to have signed this agreement between our two companies,” said Pierre Roy, President of Les Chaînes Télé Astral. “Astral and Discovery are both looking for high-quality and innovative content suitable for our diversified and highly successful networks. This output deal could not represent a better fit for our two entities”.

More than 180 hours of high-quality content have been source from across Discovery’s stable of networks including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, ID: Investigation Discovery, TLC, Planet Green and Science Channel. Key programs including Ghost Lab, After the Attack, and Monsters Inside Me can now be seen on Canal Vie, Canal D, Ztélé, VRAK.TV, Historia and Musique Plus.
