Discovery Kids Consolidates Position as Audience Leader in Brazil

According to Ibope data that consolidates pay TV audience results in Brazil from January to July 2009, Discovery Kids is the channel with the greatest number of viewers among children between the ages of four and eleven. It is also the preferred channel among parents of children between two and nine years of age.

A pioneer in programming dedicated entirely to preschool-aged children, Discovery Kids launched such hits in Brazil as BACKYARDIGANS, LAZYTOWN, CHARLIE AND LOLA and, most recently, the local productions PRINCESAS DO MAR and PEIXONAUTA. The latter, a 52-episode co-production produced entirely in Brazil, has been the audience leader among children's channels in its time slot since it premiered last April.

Discovery Kids' Brazilian website, discoverykidsbrasil.com, is also a success among young viewers and their parents, with an average 15 million page views per month.

Other Discovery networks have also showed impressive audience growth, according to Ibope's measurements. In second quarter of 2009, compared to the same period last year, Discovery Channel — the leading channel in the documentary genre — grew 14% among its target audience, P25-54, and so far this year ranks seventh among the same group of viewers. Additionally, Animal Planet more than doubled its number of viewers in second quarter 2009 over the same period in 2008, growing 125% among P25-49. For its part, Discovery Home & Health increased its audience among W18-49 by 86%, becoming the leader in channels targeting female viewers.
